AEPPS(Analysis and Evaluation to Physical Protection System) is a PC-based software for analyzing and evaluating physical protection systems. AEPPS is designed for PPS analyst and have several good features that make it easy for use. First, user can use AEPPS to set up a model of nuclear facility. Second AEPPS analyzes all adversary paths to the target location with the information given by user. Finally, AEPPS find the vulnerability and estimate the effectiveness of PPS.In the field of Nuclear Safeguard, Physical protection is an important technical measure. After the September 11 attacks in the USA, the potential threats arises from nuclear terrorism, and the importance of evaluation on PPS is taken note of by exert and media. During the 1970s, a variety of computer programs were developed to analyze PPS, but in China, no such kind of softwares developed. We must evolve an software of our own.ASD(Adversary Sequence Diagrams) is graphically models the PPS at a facility. It identifies paths and path elements, which adversaries can follow to accomplish sabotage or theft, displays the components of PPS directly, and incarnates the Defence-In-Depth request of PPS. AEPPS uses ASD as the description of the PPS, and modifies the information and data of physical area and path elements.There are so many items in facility description, and it will confuse user if they are enumerate one by one. In this article, a method to handle the numerous data is described, classify the information and show it in a tree view.Method of probability and statistics is used in the software, to analyze the action of adversaries, for it can't be forecasted that when would the adversaries intrude the facility.In statistics, we consider there is a rule of such incidents or accidents. In this article, it is on the assumption to calculate that the actions of adversaries and the security force are random variables and are independent and normally distributed. On this hypothesis, formulae are deducted. The formulae are the foundation of the calculation part.AEPPS is developed in Visual C++ environment. Volumes of dialogs are used, which make the software humanistic and easy to use.The key of the software practicability is the reliability of database. Authoritative data cause the authoritative result. The development on evaluation is based on the development of the database. To collect the safeguard information of physical protect elements and establish a database is very important, and we must do our efforts to increase the usefulness and effectiveness of the database..
