This paper focuses on design of random number generator (RNG). Including application background, technology progress and typical methods to analysis and design. In this paper, we design a random number generator based on chaotic system. The RNG we designed has been integrated in a single chip , the result of simulation and random test told us that the RNG is well-suited for use in cryptography applications. In this paper, we also discuss digital post-processing of random sequence. In chapter one, we discuss typical applications of RNG, especially in secure systems, and also discuss the characteristic of random sequence. In chapter two, some kinds of random phenomenon are showed. We analyze evaluation-rules of random sequence. In chapter three, typical methods to design RNG are introduced, their capability are also evaluated. Chapter four tells readers how to analyze a random number generator. On emphasis, we discuss chaotic theory. Further more, we design a function based on chaotic theory, the function is the one we realized in circuit. So we analyze the random capability of the function. In chapter five, we analyze noise in circuit, and evaluate the capability of the function we design in chapter four when the input of the function is circuit noise. Result of simulation is also explained. In chapter six, we discuss the realization of the function in circuit. The function and character of each block is explained. At last, we discuss the digital post-processing of random sequence.
