The appearance of stealth targets has been threatening the existing radar defence system largely. So the stealth targets detection and discrimination has become an important aspect in the targets detection and discrimination field.The UWB (ultra-wide band) radar system has got more and more attention for its excellent anti-stealth ability. Based on the UWB radar system, the emitting waveform design and signature waveform detection are discussed respectively in this paper to realize the detection and discrimination of targets. In waveform design aspect the impulse response elimination method is presented to detect and discriminate the targets. In the signature waveform detection aspect the target's late-time response is adopted as the signature waveform, then the adaptive beam formation arithmetic is used to detect this signature waveform. Analyses and simulations show that these two methods can discriminate the target effectively under different circumstances. Furthermore both of them can detect and discriminate the targets at the same time, thus the discrimination process is predigested greatly.
