To meet the needs of rapid development of speech communication^ new speech coding standard ITU G.723.1 was produced by the International Telecom Union(ITU) in March, 1996.This Recommendation specifies a coded representation that can be used for compressing the speech or other audio signal component of multimedia services at a very low bit rate.This coder has two bit rates associated with it,these are 5.3 and 6.3kbit/s,using MP-MLQ and ACELP coding technology respectively.And Both of the two bit rates achieve nice voice quality comprehensively. ITU G.723.1 can be widely used in many special fields such as mobile communication and encryption communication,etc. The chip TMS320VC5509 is selected to implement this coder, based on analyzing and studying the algorithm of G.723.1.During the course of completing this paper,the following work has been done:Firstly, Many efforts have been made on studying of the algorithm of ITU G.723.1.Secondly, the simulation of the coding and decoding algorithm of G.723.1 are conducted, based on the fixed-point programming.Thirdly, on the basis of High-Level Language simulation, the algorithm of G.723.1 is implemented using the fixed-point DSP chip TMS320VC5509.Meanwhile, we optimize the assemble program, taking the advantage of features of TMS320VC5509. A total 27.91MIPS is comsumed to implement the algorithm of G.723.1.At last, study of the sensitivity of G.723.1 to channel errors is performed, and two methods of testing the sensitivity of the bit code error of G.723.1 are introduced,some conclusions are drawn.Finally,some ways on resisting channel errors are approached.
