With the development of science and technology, information gradually takes on the characteristics of being huge, dynamic, heterogeneous, and distributed. This leads to the reform in the organization pattern of information. The emergence of distributed database solves the problem of information storage and provides preconditions for information sharing. While high-quality service definitely requires us to provide consistent semantic views for users, information acquired through different methods unavoidably has differences and even conflicts. Therefore, the new problem of how to cope with the semantic inconsistency during information sharing is brought up.This paper sets out to study the semantic problems in information organization. It expatiates on how to mediate semantic conflicts during information integration. The paper takes semantic integration in information query as an example to propose an improved semantic consistence maintenance model. This model can help to realize semantics-based query. It can detect and mediate the common semantic inconsistencies, and provides users with semantically consistent view of query results. With the help of knowledge and rules provided by the knowledge and rule sub-base in the corpus, the model expands the users1 query request. This remove the semantic inconsistency due to expression format, moreover, it helps to realize semantics-based information query. This paper uses quadri-tuple to describe semantics contained in information. Based on this kind of expression, a tree-like semantic inconsistency detection method is proposed in it. Furthermore, specific mediation approaches for various typical types of inconsistency problems is given out. In the end, the semantic maintenance model and inconsistency detection and mediation method proposed in the paper is experimented on some fore mentioned typical instances so as to validate their effectiveness.Researching work on this paper will make certain contributions to solving the semantic inconsistency problem in information organization and integration.
