Operating System Graphical User Interface

The GUI (Graphical User Interfaces) supplies a good interactive mechanism between applications and users. By using GUI, users can use input devices such as mouse, keyboard to operate the window, the button, and the icon, which compose the GUI, therefore the common users may use the computer more easily.Compare to GUI (Character User Interfaces), the GUI has its own defects. The system architecture of GUI is more complicated, which makes a high demand for hardware, and a large number of system resources are usually demanded when the GUI was running. The GUI sometimes may generate exception because of its complexity. Implementing the GUI often includes several aspects such as the event system, the management of windows, the rapid operation to graphic devices, the support for input devices, and resources management, etc. As for the Chinese GUI, the processing of Chinese information must be added, which mainly includes Chinese input, the display of Chinese characters. First, this thesis introduces the implement method of several GUI systems and their character, then some questions about the GUI are be discussed, which include the basic theory, the specific structure and the concept. An implementing model of the GUI is also being given, which improved the technology of window management. The concept of memory window is pointed out, which reduces the overhead and the complexity of window management. The thesis then describes the implement detail of the GUI. At last, the thesis summarizes the implement work of the GUI, and points out the improvement direction of the future.
