In this paper,the polarization in the fiber-optic depolarized gyros has been analyzed. Several aspects are under discussion,such as the polarization evolution in the depolarizer and the single-mode fiber sensing coil,the depolarization in the polarization-maintain fiber,the birefringence and coupling in the single-mode fiber,the nonreciprocal phase error and the output intensity.Firstly,the depolarization effect of the Lyot depolarizer to the polarized light and the partially polarized light has been analyzed. Some conclusions about the length and the splice angle of the depolarizer,the spectrum of the light source and the extinction ratio of the polarizer are obtained. Associated with the polarization in the sensing coil and the principle of the PMD analyzer,one method to design the length of the Lyot depolarizer has been put forward.Based on the theory of the PMD,the influence of the environment on the coupling and birefringence in the single-mode sensing coil is analyzed,and some conclusions about it have been drawn.Based on the above analysis,the polarization in the whole fiber-optic depolarized gyros has been studied. The relationship of the nonreciprocal phase error to the depolarizer and the single-mode sensing coil is the emphasis of this part. It also involves the relation between the demodulation and the polarization error.
