Software reuse is a realistic approach to solve software crisis. Research of software reuse currently focuses on component technology. Component technology suggests application can be developed by means of component composition. Thus it drives software development towards the road of industrialization. Research on component technology includes: component model, component description, component library (component storage, component classification, component retrieval) and component composition. Component classification, retrieval and component composition are the focus and difficulties of current research.The paper discusses the different means of component classification and retrieval, and compares these means. A component library management system based on attribute-value classification and retrieval is designed and developed. This paper also analyses several component model: JavaBean, EJB, COM+, CCM. The different meaning of component interface, different implementation of component and different composition methods in these component model are discussed. Basing on this technology, a visual composition environment for JavaBean is designed and developed.
