Depart from the traditional communication system , the Ultra WideBand technology is a novel , challenging one. This technology , employing impulse signal plus PPM ( pulse position modulation ) , has several excellent features which may make it attractive for communications ^ radarN positioning navigation etc.The central content of this paper is about the baseband module of UWB WLAN .At first , this paper gives an overview of the UWB technology , discussing the elementary framework and principle of the UWB WLAN , then stresses the work principle and the key points of the baseband module. The key points consists of two aspects: 1). M-ary PPM perfomance analysis ; 2). Research and development of the pulse acquisition and tracking digital module . The first is analyzed by the tool MATLAB 5.3 , and the later is finished by the digital circuit FPGA simulation and design .For the research and development of the baseband module of UWB WLAN , this paper presented an instructive attempt , establishing a benign foundation for the whole frame of the UWB WLAN system. The writer hope the work of this paper is a good start which can drive the more considerations of the UWB technology , more engineers taking intesests to take part into the research and development of this new > challenging technology.
