Intelligent Information Retrieval, Ontology-based Personalized User Modeling Techniques And Applications

As the solutions of the problems such as "information overload" and "information labyrinth" which are more and more serious to the ordinary users,intelligent information retrieval and personal information service have become the stresses of the research of information service. Their bases are to research how to apply the technologies of artificial intelligence to represent and organize the internet information,and how to build personal user model,so that we can represent user's interest and information need more clearly,and deal with the interaction between user and information retrieval system intelligently.This paper researches ontology-based personal user modeling technology and its application in the intelligent information retrieval. As a domain model,ontology provides a common comprehension about the domain concepts and the hiberarchy of concepts,at the same time,its utilization also reduces the dependence on the comprehension technology of natural language. The main contributions of this paper are listed as below:A ontology-based representation of user model. A user model in a special information domain is a set of personal domain ontology and personal information need which contain the user' s information.A ontology-based algorithm of user modeling. User modeling is a dynamic process during user browsing the web and retrieving information. The computing of the interest changes of user to the concepts is the stress of the algorithm.The method of how to implement the personal information service using the user model is provided. Personal navigation and personal retrieval are the two most ordinary personal web information services. User model can also be used to find and to recommend related information,and can be used in user clustering and so on.The prototype system which is a implementation of user modeling and application of the user model is also implemented. The prototype system is a web intermediary application built on the WBI platform,which employee multi-agent technology and use XML document as the middleware. It can monitor the process of user browsing the web,record the web content which user visited and user' s feedback,then analyze and deal with the data,build user' s personal ontology,so to implement personal navigation service using it;It provides an interactive interface according to domain ontology,user can use it to learn and build his her personal information need,so to implement personal retrieval service.
