With the development of computer network's technology and network's extensive application , the real-time abilities for computer networks become more and more important. This brings the research on "Real-time communication on ATM" to be the focus of real-time system research . ATM is a connection-oriented packet-switched technology. Before two hosts communicate , a connection must be established between them . A new connection requires a certain quality of service and is admitted by the network only if the network can guarantee the requested quality of service without violating the guarantees made to the connections that are currently active . In order to guarantee that the message deadline are met for each particular connection, we must derive the worst case delay of cells belonging to the connection. The research for connection admission control is a important question of real-time communication on ATM.At first, we introduced the origination of communication , the behaviours of real-time communication as an important part of real-time system , then described the current status of the research on this subject, ATM network and queueing network model. In chapter 2 ,on the basis of reference to classical static priority scheduling theory for hard real-time systems , we proposed a delay computation method with partition algorithm . In chapter 3, we analyze performance of a delay on ATM network at first, then we discussed connection admission control with respond-time analysis. At last, we summarized the work in this paper and give the direction of the future.
