More and more attention has been paid to unstructured adaptive grid for its distinguished advantage in dealing with complex boundary conditions. However, no efficient real time visualization software has been developed to display the grid for studying its changing process and quality, which greatly effect the advance of the research work of this kind of grid. In this thesis, the architecture, functions and the realization of corresponding function modules of a real time visualization system for numerical calculation of 3-dimensional unstructured grid and fluid field are studied.This real time visualization system is combined with five modules as follows: object-tool module, set-up module of a computation domain(boundary), real time display module for unstructured grid, real time display module for 3-demensional fluid field and Iso-surface extraction module. The main objective of this thesis work is to realize the functions of these modules designed with Objected-Oriented theory using OpenGL.An algorithm for extracting Iso-surfaces (or Isolines) of unstructured grid is proposed in this thesis. At first, each element is calculated to get the ones intersected with Iso-surface using some methods of extracting Iso-surfaces of structured grid for reference. Then, Iso-polygons are extracted. Finally, the Iso-polygons are triangulated.
