As an active microwave remote-imaging system, synthetic apertureradar(SAR)has applied in the field of military reconnaissance, the fieldof resource exploration and the filed of disaster watch. As airbornesynthetic aperture radar possesses the characteristics of agi1ity and high-resolution, it has been an important direction for SAR. Currently, manydeveloped countries do their best to research the airborne SAR systemwhich can obtain more high resolution so as to meet the expectation ofmilitary and civil affairs.Walter G. Carrara who has engaged the research of SAR for manyyears has said: "In SAR, motion is not only answer but also question.".The sentence shows: on the one hand the motion between radar carrierand the area of imaging is the key of high-resolution imaging, on theother hand, the motion error will damage the capability of high-resolution imaging. And that compared with spaceborne SAR,airborneSAR demands more high resoluton and it is easier to be affected byinterference factor of outside and produce greater motion error thanspaceborne SAR. To obtain high resolution SAR image,it is needed tocarry out motion compensation. So it is important to research the motioncompensation of airbome SAR system. This paper mostly discusses the motion compensation of airborneSAR system; at the same time applies computer simulation and raw dataof L-SAR system to analyze the result. The main content of this paper include:Chapterl provides introductory definitions and the history presentsituations, etc.Chapter 2 provides the theory of SAR imaging and introduces theconcepts of motion error and motion compensation.Chapter 3 analyzes the affection of motion error and precision needof motion compensation.Chapter 4 applies L-SAR raw data to extract motion error modeland analyzes the methods of motion compensation.Chapter5 gives a sum-up of this paper, and lists some valuableresearch direction and problems.
