This paper presents a new method to measure the surface tension . Compared with old methods, it is a precise, automatic and efficient method.Generally speaking, a parallel beam of light of the homogeneous intensity distribution should still be a parallel beam of the homogeneous intensity distribution after reflection of a plane surface. But, when a parallel beam of light illumines a local curve surface, its reflection field bears a strange optical phenomenon ,namely, in the homogeneous bright field center, a dark field of the minimum intensity in the shape of ellipse with the distinct boundary. Literature presents detailed analysis and explanation of this phenomenonThe size of this dark field is relative to the surface tension. So a new measure method of the surface tension is invented .Firstly, the image of the dark field is inputted into the computer, and then the computer measures its size. After this process , the computer calculates this datum according with the program, which is set up in advance . Finally, the surface tension is displayed on the screen. Through these three steps , the automatic measurement of the surface tension is completed.
