RFID(Radio Frequency Identification, referred to as RFID) has been widely used in many communication systems and plays a very important role in the application of the Internet of things for a series of advantages, such as higher recognition speed, longer recognition distance, more powerful penetrability, and better environmental adaptability.RFID reader antenna is the bridge and link in the entire radio frequency identification system as the front-end facilities for transmitting and receiving identification signal. So it has profound significance to research RFID reader antenna. Due to multiple band characteristics of the RFID system, dual-band and multi-frequency RFID antenna has became the first to bear the brunt. This paper firstly introduced the theory about RF identification technology and showed the component parts, the working principle, the frequency division and application, and the present situation and design points of RFID reader antenna. Then it expounded the basic theory of the antenna in detail, and analysed the effect of antenna parameters for the performance of antenna. Finally, it summarized the method of the realization of multi-frequency and circular polarization antenna. In view of the design method of microstrip antenna research and analysis, this paper designed two kinds of reader antenna which work in the 920 MHz, 2.45 GHz and2.45 GHz, 5.8GHz. The results show that the antenna performance reached the requirements of RFID system through the simulation optimization. On this basis, a new type of triple band microstrip reader patch antenna is designed by slotting on a single patch, which works on the free bands of 1.268 GHz, 2.45 GHz and 5.8GHz. The final results of antenna are in great agreement with the simulation results, which showed that the two antennas can absolutely meet the requirements of RFID with the compact structure and stable performance.
