With the development of the Internet, users’interactions go from text based and non-real-time applications (e.g. Email, mail list) to multimedia based and real-time applications (e.g. multiplayer online games, video conferencing systems), which brings great challenges to consistency maintenance for the more real-time interactions required. At the same time, a lot of single machine applications are ported to networked environment transparently for real-time collaboration, which also requires consistency maintenance since the original applications require nothing about consistency. Combining the two trends above, this thesis focuses consistency maintenance on the real-time video interactions with transparently sharing legacy video games over Internet as the application background. This thesis focuses on the following:1. defines a consistency model, summarizes the consistency maintenance requirement in the application and formalizes logical consistency as well as real-time consistency;2. combines the benefits from both pessimistic approaches and optimistic approach in consistency maintenance to get a dual-VM hybrid approach for synchronization which works at a higher network latency;3. describes the system design and implementation for consistency maintenance of different user roles in this application, evaluates the performance of the system, compares the performance of the pessimistic approach and the hybrid approach, also verifies the effectivity in saving server costs by using P2P architecture。...
