Abstract/Summary:
Synchronous Optical Network/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SONET/SDH) is worldwide applied in Metro area network, Distance communication network and Wide area network. It has many advantages such as an universal digital transportation system, synchronous multiplex, multiple network management and tandard optical interface. Ethernet is a mutli-service carrier for its mature technology, cheap price, easy to upgrade and manage, so it is widely applied in local area network. Ethernet Over SDH (EOS) technology is used to break the limit of Ethernet local area network and help Ethernet package transparently transmit through WAN and MAN via the existing SDH network, so this is a valuable research topic. This thesis is mainly focused on the design of using Generic Framing Procedure (GFP) to implement 10G Ethernet Over SDH.This thesis, first introduce the basic theory of lOGb/s Ethernet and SDH, the background of application and the advantage of each theory. Then naturally introduce EOS conception, compassion of 4 types of EOS technologies.Based on G.7041 description, introduce the GFP frame structure, GFP encapsulation and decapsulation protocol, and 10G XGMII interface.This thesis is following Top-Down design methodology, firstly define the system functionality from transmission and receiver aspects, then using modular design principle to design each module, specify each function, interface timing and internal FSM. Synchronous design, crossing clock domain design, memory control design and paralyzed design are used in thesis to balance area and speed. Finally, Verilog HDL and Xilinx Virtex 5 is part of the design.Using advanced verification language SystemC to build testbench, using Modelsim-6.1c as simulation tools.
