Target detection and tracking technology have great value of application in the field of civilian and military. Target detection and tracking system which consists of the signal acquisition, signal processing, information transmission, machine vision, automatic control, statistics, artificial intelligence, sensor technology and computer engineering is a multi-discipline comprehensive system, and it has great potential of development.Firstly, the research significance and the research situation of moving object detection and tracking system at home and abroad have been giving in this paper. On this basis, the problems of the conventional moving target detection and tracking system have been found, including the problems which exist in the system design issues. Secondly, during the research of the existing moving target detection and tracking algorithm, the improved target detection and tracking algorithm has been proposed for existing problems. Thirdly, the embedded system developing environment has been constructed by using assembly language and C language mixing programming technology, and then the design of Bootloader, the configuration of Linux Kernel, the transplantation of file system have been completed. In the last, the hardware and software of embedded system has been designed and realized.Experiments show that the improved moving target detection and tracking system can achieve target tracking automatically, and it can avoid the interference of same color objects in the process of automatic tracking. Finally summarized and prospects in this paper have been given.
