Moving object detection and tracking technology is an important subject in computer vision, image processing, pattern recognition; It was widely used in the military, security monitoring, traffic control, product inspection, medical image analysis。It has important value and a wide prospects for development. Due to the use of diversity and the complexity of the environment, there is no fixed rule to follow。The accuracy of tracking moving target detection and reliability of tracking technology is the research core. In this paper, moving object detection and tracking were discussed, mainly to complete the following tasks:Detection of the moving object was investigated in this paper. Frame difference method and the improved symmetrical frame difference algorithm was studied. For simple scenes the frame difference method achieved good results. Background subtraction method was studied. The statistical average method was used to build the background. This method can build the background successfully. It was used to detect the moving vehicle in the road scene. The Gaussian mixture model algorithm was deeply analyzed. It was used to detect moving targets in the surveillance video and obtained very good results. A clear outline of the moving object was detected. Edge subtraction method was studied. It was used in he surveillance scenarios to detect moving object and obtained good result.Moving object tracking is studied. Kalman filter tracking algorithm was analyzed. This tracking method was used to track moving vehicle in simple road scene. The motion model of the moving vehicle was built to track the vehicle. The moving vehicle was locked. Multiple hypothesis tracking algorithm was studied. It was implemented in Visual C++ 6.0 with OpenCV library. In the surveillance video several moving objection was tracked.
