Indian NGO is one of the best developing and most well organized organizations in developing countries. Since Independence of India, NGO's influence in Indian society has existed and gradually expanded. Nowadays, NGO has become the third strength of society separating with government and market. It has a wide impact and support in India society, especially during the middle and lower class. NGO has participated in a large amount of government policy-making and implementation of project, and provided consulting opinions. Overall, there is great individual difference and intense contradiction in Indian society, but it still maintains harmonious and stable development under this circumstance. NGO has played a very important role in that.The thesis will pin down on three parts to discuss the NGO's role in Indian society. In the first part, there is an introduction of basic situation and characteristics of NGO. The second part discusses the relationship between NGO and various sections of society such as government, enterprises and social groups. The last part discusses the role of NGO in society, the ways of the role and evaluation of the effect.Through this three-part study, it is found that the areas of NGO's activities has been everywhere in India, so it play a multiple and complex roles in Indian society. On the whole, NGO plays the role of lubricant in every social right systems, which avoids the organic harm to the social organism because of the conflict of interest and power.
