Kite culture, which combines artistic beauty, natural beauty, meaning beauty and movement beauty, is a wonderful traditional Chinese culture and the combination of the truth, the good and the beauty. Being regarded as the folk symbol, it manifests perfect blending of human, arts and nature. The beauty of kite is implicated in its unique shape, its comprehensively implied meaning, its far-reaching conception and imagination. Relying on its rich cultural heritage, vivid entertainment, incomparably interests, sincere praying meaning, Chinese kite not only survived thousands years of history, but also is receiving increasing pursuit and love in modern society and is transforming into the entertainment catering to popular taste. Collection of kite has become the indication of elegance of artistic pursuit.Under such context of the development of cultural industry and on the basis of empirical study and access to sorts of documentations, the thesis reviewed and summarized development of kite culture and conducted in-depth excavation to its aesthetic value with the purpose of injecting new vitality to the industry of kite culture, so that Chinese kite, the ancient art form, would be capable of the dissemination of Chinese folk culture and traditional values, and the promotion of prosperity of China's economy.The thesis is divided into five partsThe first part is a general review of the kite culture, which consists two parts: discussion of necessity of researching the aesthetic value of kite, and illstration of the origin, development and genre of kite culture.The second part discusses the deep cultural connotation of kite culture raised in modern society from the following five perspectives: the interrelationships of kite culture with health, love, legend, fashion, leisure and recreation, all of which are the reasons why kite culture is popular in modern society, and is loved in the history.The third and fourth parts are the main parts of the thesis. The aesthetic value of kite culture is discussed from the the perspective of aesthetics and from the surface and deep levels. The third part focuses on the surface beauty of kite culture from four aspects of theme, color, rhythm, and form: auspicious meanings of the theme; brightness, intensity, colorful painting of the color; convey of people's love toward life of rhythm; balance, symmetry, trimness, and reconcilement of form. Kites inherited the derived features of the traditional Chinese art, bearing distinct utilitarianism of spirit. All of these surface beauty conveyed deep auspicious meanings, expressing the people's aesthetic needs as well.The fourth part discusses the inherent aesthetic characteristics of kite culture, four aesthetic characteristics of kite culture are listed here: aesthetic characteristics, namely, the prayer of devout, frankness of emotion, richness of imagination, and vivid naturalness. Pious prayer is mainly reflected in three aspects: the conquest of nature, the shaping of the mind, the avoidance of disasters; art is emotional note, kite art is the sincere expression of people, reflecting the rustic feeling of people with the emotional frankness; modeling of kite painting is based on objective things, but not limited to the true description of objective things, of scenery for the sentiment, of shaping to spirituality, conveying a strong impressionistic content; kite is the product of nature, reflecting the unity of nature and artistic beauty. Materials of kite-making are from the nature, and playing kites is proceeded in the nature. As a kind of entertainment, Kite indicates the total liberation of the human spirit, absolute freedom of spirit with vivid naturalness.The fifth part is the conclusion of the aesthetic value of kite culture, and the outlook of the development of cultural industries of kite.
