High School English Teachers' Professional Development Status, Problems And Countermeasures

Middle school is a preparatory phrase of higher education. Upon entering the economy of knowledge, all the countries, under the increasingly fierce competition for human capital, are focusing on cultivating a large number of high-quality innovative talents with high-tech expertise as well as foreign language skills and are striving to improve the professional qualities of teachers. The"Action Plan for Educational Vitalization Facing the 21st Century"ratified by the State Council also emphasized the importance of"Invigorating China through science, technology and education, education first; Revitalizing education, teachers first. Building a high-quality teacher group is an important way to foster qualified personnel."Middle school teachers must be proficient in foreign languages, mostly English, so the professional qualities of middle school English teachers directly constrain the quality of talent education.The study is divided into four parts.The first part put forth the connotation of professional development of teachers and its theoretical basis, with an overview of relevant researches. It also deals with the conceptions of professional development and the English teachers'professional development. And also analyzes the contents of the English teachers'professional development.The second part introduces the findings of the survey on professional development of middle school English teachers in Yantai District.The third part tries to find out the problems of the professional development of middle school English teachers in Yantai District and discusses the reasons of those problems.The last part brings forward measures to promote the professional development of middles school teachers in this district.
