With the abolition of the imperial examination system and the rise of the new school, the late Qing government encouraged the publication of a group of around their own compilation of local materials for universal primary education and promotion of the vernacular, the abolition of classical Chinese.Especially after the enactment of "the playing of the set of small elementary charter school" ,the Local Government attaches particular importance to education. In 1905, "local head Zhi cases" issued by Division became the Qing government to promote local education initiatives. Thereafter, a compilation of various parts of a wave of local materials, and Jiangsu also started publishing a number of compilation of local history and geography textbooks, such as "Sikkim Local History" (1904), Nantong "local history and geography textbooks" (1906 ), "the Shanghai native Chi" (1907), "Local Taizhou Zhi" (1908) and so on.Late Qing Dynasty, Jiangsu native compilation of the history and geography textbooks became more stable and mature, and also formed its own characteristics after the development over time.Such as: by the impact of the special historical background of Late Qing Dynasty,the times are the main features of Jiangsu local history and geography textbooks during this period. As a result of Jiangsu geographical and cultural environment, local history and geography textbooks have a strong geographical features. At the same time, there are significant regional differences between the central-southern of Jiangsu and northern regions in the quantity and content of local textbooks.Late Qing Dynasty Jiangsu compiled a number of different forms of local materials.There are forms of local records, there are new forms of textbooks, there are Chinese and Western forms etc.During the period many people were involved in the compilation of a large local materials.As the different life experiences and different educational background, there are some differences in understanding local materials to some extent.The late 19th century early 20th century, the Chinese community was in the aggression and oppression of Western powers .It was the important transition from ancient to the modern development and the transition period in the impact of cultural disintegration and reconstruction of the ancient and modern Chinese culture. In this particular historical period,local history and geography textbooks came out and developed and continuously improved. The contents of textbooks bore many aspects of political, economic, cultural information at that time. The national concept, concept of social change, gender, the concept of Trade and Industry which were contained in the teaching materials also changed with the times.
