University selective curriculum, which allows students to choose non-major courses according to their own preferences, aims at broadening their horizon, emphasizing on character development and fostering qualities. Since information era imposes a higher standard of talent training on higher education, and graduates from local higher educational colleges and universities are facing an awkward situation of employment, the setup of selective helps to turn out all-round talents suitable for society and raise their competitiveness while seeking employment. However, local colleges and universities, still in the process of transformation, encounter many problems, such as developing mode, guiding concepts, faculty structure, cultural atmosphere, inner regulations and hardware construction. Thus, for the purpose of enhancing education quality and running level of those colleges and universities, it is necessary to delve into the study on the present implementation of their selectives.Therefore, this article, based on file references and discussions with faculty and students, focuses on the selective implementation of Taishan University. Its significance lies in finding out an approach to achieve quality-oriented education and offer students a healthier development regarding morality, study, technique, and mentality, thus transforming them into new-type talents welcomed by society.Part 1 is the introduction, briefly introducing the background,the significance, the related definitions, the research synthesis and the methods in this article.Part 2 reveals the present situations of implementation of selective curriculum in the context of Taishan University. Based on the survey data of selective choosing status and students'mentality, it analyses the basic characteristics and possible problems in students'choice of selectives. Investigations show that selective courses in Taishan university encounter many problems, such as deficiency of gross courses, lack of high-quality class, obscurity of curriculum classification standards, unbalance of humanity courses and science and technology course, and inappropriate attitude of teaching staff, which in all together lead to a low implementation quality of university selectives. Furthermore, the investigation also points out that university, faculty and students do not enjoy a scientific recognition toward the significance of selective course, which in turn results in insufficient financing, take-it-easy mood of faculty and students, and imperfect management mechanism, and so on and so forth.Part 3 focuses on the analysis of the lack of enforcement on selective curriculum implementation of Taishan University. Investigations show that, while selective course can basically answers the cry for credits, both teaching quality and management turn out to be a problem that cannot be ignored, which is basically due to the following reasons: lack of attention from the university and teaching body; insufficient effective guidance for the students; lack of fundamental requirements for implementing selective curriculum; and unscientific management mechanism of selective curriculum.In part 4, this article will put forward its suggestion to approach this phenomenon from three aspects. That is, from the college /university's aspect, it suggests that concept should be changed and systems should be perfected in order to strengthen the status of its selective curriculum. Towards this end, it stresses curriculum construction, enrichment and high-quality courses to satisfy students'request of all-round development. At the same time, guidance on choosing selective, selective-choosing mechanism, teaching management perfection, teaching quality, exploitation of faculty teaching-research studios, term evaluation methods and even teaching backups, all have its due influence. From the faculty's aspect, first of all, attitude matters, then comes the arrangement of competent teachers and standard teaching quality. As to the student's aspect, attitude also comes first, make sure that they realize the importance and necessity of selective courses, make sure that their passion be inspired, and make sure that they take it in a positive way.The last Part will be the conclusion, which summarizes the initial discussion of this article, points out its unsolved issues and defects, and lays out its future focuses.
