To improve students' English reading ability is one of the important goals of secondary English teaching in basic education in China. However, poor reading performance among the majority of students is still a prominent problem. The author of the thesis thinks reading-strategy training can improve students' reading performance effectively and even enhance their self-study ability.Few researches have touched this field. There have been no ready-made models for teachers to refer to. In order to perfect this situation, the author designs "Integration Training Mode" in reading teaching, based on the Circle of Teaching and Learning and Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach. The aim of the thesis is to find out if reading-strategy training can improve students' reading performance effectively, improve their passive reading state and enhance their awareness of reading strategy employment in English reading by training junior students' reading strategies in two classes of Grade 8 in Nanhua No.2 Middle School.At first, "Questionnaire" is devised by the author to investigate the usage of the students' reading strategies, which reveals that the rate of employing the strategies is quite low. Then the contrastive strategy-training experiment is carried out on the students in the two classes based on it. The training methods in the experiment group include teaching reading-strategy knowledge, reading-strategy training in English teaching in details, cultivating the students' habit of monitoring and introspecting their reading course. The traditional methods are adopted in the control group. At the final stage of the experiment a test is carried out. The author collects data for statistic analysis. The results reveal that the students' reading comprehension and their awareness of reading strategy employment in English reading have been improved markedly after the strategy training.Generally speaking, the results of the present study have demonstrated that integrating training of reading strategies into classroom teaching in the junior middle school is practical and effective. Teachers should pay more attention to the students' reading course and guide them to learn to employ some suitable reading strategies and evaluate the effects in time so that most of students can feel the achievements and progress in reading.
