| Learning approach here means students' basic behavior and cognitive tropism demonstrated in their process of finishing learning tasks. It represents the types and ways of learning activities the learners select in their process of learning that have impacts on the learning content, including learning behaviors, learning strategies, learning tendencies and many other factors. Encouragement of diversification of learning approaches is one of the important goals of our country's educational reform.This research, guided by many theories of learning approach, and taking the secondary school students as object, has involved investigations by the use of questionnaires developed by the researcher to survey secondary school students' learning approaches of mathematics in accordance with the characteristics of mathematics subject. Based on investigations concerned, the researcher has gained a thorough understanding of the actuality of secondary school students' learning approaches of mathematics and found that there are differences in the learning approaches of mathematics among different grades of secondary school students, that mathematical performance is closely related to learning approaches of mathematics, and that there are no obvious differences between different sexes. Subsequently, by adopting qualitative research method, the researcher made keen observations in the mathematics classroom, and concluded through analysis and comparison of the links of classroom teaching that there are differences in students' participation degree, thinking depth and so on in classrooms adopting different learning approaches of mathematics. The results are highly relevant to the teaching approaches adopted by teachers. Some teaching approaches restrict the cultivation of students' initiative and inquiry. Moreover, the researcher has displayed in this paper the learning approaches normally shown by the secondary school students' in their process of solving problems through a special case study of how a student solved his own problems. Finally, in allusion to problems found in the above analysis, the researcher indicates some teaching apocalypses which may lay a foundation for reforms in mathematics teaching. |
