Chinese Modern Private Universities And Contemporary Private University Study

Our country has a tradition of private higher education. The development of private university in Chinese modern history is a result of the development of contemporary styled university in Chinese traditional culture, and it also made a "fairly developed" achievement in the material relative backwardness situation. Experienced of changing from private to public and then to "fading away" in the 50's of last century, private college and university came upon the stage of history starting anew and developed rapidly as an inseparable part of modern higher education to be reckoned. At present, a series of problem emerged in the development of private higher education, as well as some achievements have been made. In our opinion, since there are variety of blood ties between modern private universities and contemporary ones in that both of them are rooted in the same culture and history, it is undoubted that they are comparable.This Thesis fell into five sections. In the section of Introduction, the background of the study, definitions of concepts and the status, significance and meaning of the study were covered, as well as approaches and methods used in this study. In chapter one, general development situation of modern and contemporary private university was expanded. To set a foundation on which social and cultural background and development characteristic of them can be compared, the changes with the advance of history were systematically tracked. In Chapter two, by comparing the respected social and cultural background of modern and contemporary private university, the "soil" was presented rooted in which had been growing private high education in our country. The basic characteristics of their social and cultural background were generalized and then comparisons were made between their differences and similarities. Chapter three is the major section of this thesis, focusing on the problems in contemporary private university development existed in both outer environment and inner administration. By analyzing a case of JiangYin Pei'er Career-oriented Institute of Technology, which was the first closed private college in JiangSu Province because of worse deficiency, after firstly generalizing the characteristics of private high education development, summarization was made about the actual problems existed in current development of contemporary private higher education.
