The basic character of students in elementary and middle school period is growth and development. The level and speed of growth and development not only reflect the health situation of students, but directly affect their health in the future, present the development and advancement of the society and the situation of the medicine and health protection. There are some disadvantage factors in nature and society which can result in the growth and development decreases, students'malnutrition and obesity. The level and changing of students'growth and development is one of the comprehensive indices which presents the development of social politic, economic and culture. To conduct the research about the changing trend of students'growth and development is not only the human physiological need, but also the requirement of the social development and progress.The objectives of this study include that to keep abreast of the status and trend of students'growth and development of elementary and middle schools in Taiyuan city from 1946 to 2005, of the changing trend of their nutrition, of the main problems of their growth and development, and to inquire into the regular pattern of their growth and development.The subjects of the study are students whose age are from 7 to 15 and studied in the elementary and middle schools in Taiyuan in different decade of a century. The study indices include height, weight and weight index (BMI).
