| In the year 2001, the State Education Ministry issued Standards in Chinese Education (SCE for short). 2002 saw the formal initiation of "the Research on Personality Development in Writing Teaching in Primary and Secondary Schools", one of the major research projects in the tenth Five-year Plan launched by the Central Educational Science Research Center. According to SCE, experiments were first conducted at selected points to counter such malpractices widely existing in students' composition as lack of personality, conceptiona-lization and plagiarism. These experiments accelerated the application process of SCE and in 2004 SCE was officially carried out across the country. Mr Gu Zhengbiao, chief-editor of Chinese-teaching materials (published by People's Education Press), in Dialogue on SCE Writing-teaching Targets points out that among the 28 stage targets the most important one is personality development and innovational spirit cultivation. In other words, to put SCE into effect means to attach great importance to personality-oriented writing teaching. This thesis elaborates on the theoretical basis on which personality-oriented writing teaching plan is put forward, the implications of personality and personality-oriented writing teaching, and tries to find out the right means and measures of personality-oriented writing teaching.Part One approaches the context of personality-oriented writing teaching from various angles. Its proposition has experienced many setbacks and its successful application is the product of labours of the earlier generations of educators. Part Two is devoted to the illustration of personality, personality cultivation and personality-oriented writing. In this part, the implications of personality are revealed philosophically, psychologically as well as pedagogically and the theoretical framework of personality-oriented writing teaching is defined. Part Three diccusses the means and measures of personality-oriented writing teaching. They are explored from the following five aspects: writing materials,teaching techniques, teaching forms, thinking habit cultivation and ways of composition appraising, thus basically eatablishing a training system of the personality-oriented writing teaching project.Personality, personality-oriented writing and personality-oriented writing teaching are an organic whole. In teaching practice, we should try to keep them to work in coordination with one another.This subject comes from the first-hand middle-school teaching experiences. It will be enriched and perfected in the process of later language teaching. |
