Vocational education is a kind of social phenomenon, and also one part of social system. It is restricted by political, economic and cultural factors, and in reversion, influences these aspects. The functions of the university are the combination of vocational education and social needs in different times. Regardless of the size of a city, the key factor of success in global competition is the city function, characteristic and ability to compete. Thus, the role of science and technology as well as cultural education is so prominent in city development. Therefore, we should pay more attention to the educational development, especially the vocational education which aims at experts and professional technicians. Vocational education has a close relationship with city economic development, they condition and interact each other. Vocational education plays a formulating role in city economic development. The discussion on Dandong vocational educational education is not limited to one place or one city only, it is of universal significance. In this regard, the author of this paper attempts to discuss the influences which vocational education has on Dandong economic development. The discussion consists of the following aspects: the requirements of vocational education in Dandong, the economic negative effects of delaying educational development, the advantages of Dandong vocational education and the priorities. The aim of this study is not only to provide valuable theoretical support, but also to give practical basis concerning vocational education and urban economic development.
