Entering 21st century, university education is making much progress in areas such as university scale expansion, etc. According to the international rule, the higher education in our country has entered a stage of popularization. The rapid development in science and technology as well as the formation of global economic integration put forward an even higher demand for higher education. To adhere the principle of adopting different education method for different students and keep the idea of cultivating students' creative ability as our key education purpose, many universities set up intensive instruction classes successively. This teaching model is not the one that merely meets the requests of a small percentage of top students while the majority are sacrificed, but the one that provides high level education with high quality while keep most of students in popularized education.Based on our investigation and research, the author illustrates the importance of teaching method reform in intensive instruction class. In this thesis, a teaching reform scheme based on inquiry learning is put forward for university physics teaching in intensive instruction class for science and engineering major. The purposes of this reform are three folds: one, build a solid and broad background of knowledge for the students; two, strengthen their self-learning ability; three, build a pioneering spirit and a first stage research ability for them. Experiments were carried out in intensive instruction class, grade 2001 in Nanjing Normal University. We carried on the project of after-class inquiry learning on special topics,and the feed back of these experiments is positive. Then I raised the scheme of in-class penetrative inquiry learning.Looking back the processes we have been through, the efficiency of interactive communication between advisor and students needs to be improved. For this reason, we have built a website for advising and submitting thesis on-site in inquiry learning procedure. The whole system has gone on test.
