It is an undoubtabe fact that the teaching of reading both bears a profound cultural-value and a spiritual meaning, and therefore is closely related to the ways people live. The fact calls for and regulates that the Teaching of Reading in Chinese (TRC) should be redefined as part of the new curriculum reform. The reformed teaching should follow the principles of developing students' individualities, paying attention to the particular feelings and experiences in reading and encouraging an creative way of reading from different angles. Based on these principles, I have adopted a method of Teaching Reading in Chinese with the Help of Annotations (TRCHA), a method in which teachers and students, aided with their experience in life, probe deep beneath the surface of the text and read between the lines. Meanwhile, they should make annotations of various kinds about their respective and particular feelings. Seen from the aesthetic point of view, it is a method in which the readers decipher the text by giving full play to their subjective initiatives, lending wings to imaginations and employing various kinds of abilities of thinking. As reading and exploring for themselves, the students accumulate actively, understand and research freely and learn independently, which helps develop healthy specialties in reading, from integral personalities and establish rich and colorful qualities of emotions and characters. Exploring deeply into the current situation of our TRC, the article probes and discusses the theoretic foundation of TRCHA and its concrete implementation.
