This study was designated to evaluate the self-esteem and its influential factors among 1750 middle school students from seven middle schools in Macao by applying "Adolescent Self-Worth Questionnaire" and "Adolescent Self-Worth Influential Factor Questionnaire" designed by Prof. Huang Xiting. Results of this study showed that the means of overall self-worth, general individual preference of self-worth and specific psychological preference of self-worth in male students are significantly higher than those in female students, on the other hand, the means of specific moral preference of self-worth and specific family preference of self-worth in female students are significantly higher than those in male students. There is a decreasing trend of self-worth level in Form one students among middle schools in Macao while the trend of the change in self-worth remains constant relatively from Form two to Form six. The overall developing level of self-worth of the students from renowned schools is much higher than that of the students from non-renowned schools, renowned school students showing higher self-worth level indicates there is a relationship between the level of self-worth and good school environment, better teaching quality and teaching resource. Goal of life, study performance, family relationship, participation of recreation and artistic activities and participation of sport and physical activities are five key factors which greatly influence the level of self-worth in the middle school students from Macao. Clear goal of life and ideals, better school performance, frequent participation in physical activities and recreation activities, harmony family relation will significantly enhance the level of student self-worth as shown in this study.
