The thesis is guided by writing cultural theory, and based on current education and author's teaching practice of composition where students are regarded as teaching subject. It talks about following aspects: the position of the consciousness of writing subject in writing activity and teaching practice; the actual requirements to developthe consciousness of writing subject; the connotation of the consciousness of writing subject and about its fundamental principle, channels, methods and so on.From the historical development, we can see the following tendency that the position of the consciousness of writing subject is affirmed in writing activity and teaching practice. At first, it is concerned by the traditional cultural theory and writing practice, then, it is dispelled by the old teaching composition, at last, it is neglected by the modern teaching composition. Nowadays, in order to change the condition that writing techniques are paid more attention and students are paid less, and aimed at research learning and individualized teaching, it is very necessary to strengthen developing the consciousness of writing subject.According to the analysis of basic factor, the consciousness of writing subject not only is synthesized from psychological factor and from artistic appreciation, but also is synthesized from the self-sense of writing action that run through every link of teaching composition. Developing the consciousness of writing subject ought to observe two focal principles. One is that the goal and task of teaching composition must tally with the objective law of student's development, so as to incarnate the individual development, stage and diversity. The other is that the methods of teaching composition must agree with the generative law of composition, and must concern student's emotional experience and aesthetic interest, so as to respect student's writing individuality and give full play to their conscious activity in writing action.The primary ways of developing the consciousness of writing subject are main as follows: Using the principle of educational psychology, mainly including arousing student's writing motive and interest, and trainning student's critical thought; using the visual angle of writing culture( the emphasis of discussion in the thesis),and using the theory of research learning and individualized teaching to optimize the links of teaching.In addition, the author try to put forward his view about the assess system of teaching composition that it goes with developing the consciousness of writing subject.
