China's teacher education in 21st century is confronted with a dual pressure: to eliminate the malady of the present system and to improve the quality of teacher education, which makes the reform of teacher education imperative. In the light of the experience on the development of teacher education worldwide, to set up an open system of teacher education and to emphasize the professional development of teachers are necessary measures that should be taken in this reform. Both the open system of teacher education and the professionalization of teachers need a comprehensive accreditation system of teacher education courses. However, China is still lacking this kind of accreditation system. In order to establish this system, we first need to acquaint ourselves with other countries', especially developed countries', practice, experience, gain and loss, and problems as well on accrediting the courses of teacher education. By this, we can build up an accreditation system on the courses of teacher education with Chinese characteristic.During the course of collecting and sorting out the information about the accreditation system on the teacher education courses abroad, we noticed that the accreditation system of initial teacher education courses in Scotland is comparatively complete and effective. This dissertation is trying to make a systematic introduction on the accreditation system in Scotland, and to analyze the system in the background of era, history and the development on Scotland's education as well. Hopefully, this dissertation can serve the purposes both at the further study on Scotland's accreditation system of initial teacher education courses and at the establishment of China's own accreditation system.The dissertation is composed of five parts:The first part is preface. In this part, the author described the research background, significance, thread and approach of this dissertation and briefly explained several terms which were frequently used in the paper;The second part is about the background of Scotland's accreditation system of initial teacher education courses. In this part, the author elaborated both the background of the emergence and evolution of the worldwide accreditation on teacher education courses and the domestic background of Scotland's accreditation system of initial teacher education courses;The third part is about the operation of Scotland's accreditation system of initial teacher education courses. In this part, the author introduced in great detail the operational agencies, the operational process of its functioning and accrediting and the related criteria;The forth part is about the evaluation of Scotland's accreditation system of initial teacher education courses. In this part, great emphasis was put on making an objective evaluation and analysis about the role, the essentials and the problems of the Scotland's accreditation system of initial teacher education courses;The last part briefly summarized the whole dissertation and made the main conclusion.
