A Study On The Inheritance And Development Of Folk Folk Sports In The Wa Nationality From The Perspective Of Cultural Ecology

Wa people is one of Yunnan’s unique ethnic groups, its national sports have plenty of historic culture, more and more people place great emphasis on national characteristics and cultural values of national sports. In the field of social science research, the use of cultural ecology in minority folk sports have been received more and more attention. Applying the viewpoints of culture ecology in folk sports in social science research becomes more and more popular nowadays than before. Studying folk sports from the perspective of culture ecology will contribute to the in-depth study and boost the development of folk sports of Wa people.This research is based on the theory of cultural ecology. We investigated the last primitive tribe in China, Wengding Wa village, by references searching, field survey, logic analysis and interviewing. The investigation included deep analysis about the formation, current situation, cultural ecology changing, ecological heritage and development dilemma as well as their countermeasures. The main conclusions are as follows.1.Wa’s folk sports are influenced by the local physical environment and social environment(social system, social economy, religious beliefs and festivals).2.The organizational forms and content of Wa people’s folk sports have altered a lot as time goes by. The folk sports of Wa people have gone through five cultural ecology changes: sacrifice folk sports, stage folk sports, ten years of stagnation, media folk sports and tourism folk sports.3.The ecological inheritance pattern of Wa’s folk sports is restricted and therefore have problems of fault and deficiency.4.Major difficulties of Wa’s folk sports’ development from cultural ecology perspective include: The change of culture ecological environment; the impact of foreign cultures; economic globalization; the contradiction between missing functions of traditional organization and imperfect modern organization; the limit of inheritance mode; backward ideas which hinder the development and inheritance of Wa’s folk sports; Weak marketing power of tourism brand.This paper puts forward the following Suggestions and countermeasures:1.Carry out Wa folk sports activities in a diversified way.2.Establish villagers’ autonomous folk sports’ social management system according to the rules and regulations of China. Establish a tourism management association which includes youth heritage association, elderly association and literature and art performance association in Weng Wa Village.3.More capital investment from the government. Government needs to pump more money into sports facilities and personnel training. In addition to that, government also need to help increasing publicity of Wa’s folk sports and fund folk festivals and competitions.4.To save and develop Wa’s folk sports from the point of intangible cultural heritage protection regulations; Declaration of intangible cultural heritage; cultivate the Wa’s folk sports projects successors; organize and develop Wa’s folk sports hierarchically.5.Achieve the combined development of Wa’s folk sports and eco-tourism.6.Establish a sound way to inherit Wa’s folk Sports.7.Establish culture ecological reserve centering on Wa’s folk sports.
