The compiling of teaching materials reflects the idea of curriculum reform.As the main form of mathematics textbooks,Illustration is the symbol of the reformation and innovation of the teaching material.But there are not many researches about the textbook illustrations at home and abroad.The use of illustrations in mathematics textbooks by teachers and students in the author’s practice school is not very extensive.The lack of awareness about the function of illustrations by teachers and students as well as the imperfect Illustrations writing system that leads to the situation.How to develop the function of the illustrations better and how to use illustrations effectively in the practice of mathematics teaching leave a thinking space for general education workers.This thesis acquires the theoretical basis about textbook illustrations through the analysis of literature data.It focuses on reorganizing, inducing and analyzing the number and characteristics of the illustrations of the junior high school mathematics textbooks used in Shanghai.The writer understands the application status of textbook illustrations by teachers and students via questionnaire. In the light of the problems during the application of textbook illustrations,the author proposes some suggestions and opinions for the users and compilers of the textbook illustrations.It provides conditions for teachers to make use of the textbook illustrations for teaching as well as promoting students’ comprehensive development.The conclusions of this paper are as follows:1.The illustrations of junior high school mathematics textbook can be classified according to the location, organization form and function.Illustration teaching can improve students’ cognitive ability and observation ability,promote students’ understanding of the concept of mathematics,stimulate students’ interest in learning mathematics,enhance the education of the emotion, attitude and values and so on.2.The quantity distribution of the illustrations of the junior high school mathematics textbooks used in Shanghai is relatively uniform.It Pays attention to the cultivation of students’ ability to solve problems.Most of the illustrations are derived from life.This emphasizes the connection between mathematics and real life.The content of the illustrations is comparatively diversified by contacting the knowledge of different subjects.But the form of the illustrations are too simple.The mismatching of the text and illustrations in individual illustrations interferes the students’ understanding of the meaning of the titles.3.At present, the design of the illustrations of this version has been recognized by teachers.But it still need to improve the quantity and quality of the illustrations.The illustration teaching by teachers in the first line is not deep enough.Hence it is necessary to improve the understanding of the role of illustrations.Due to the lack of guidance of teachers, students’ understanding of the textbook illustrations is not comprehensive.Therefore, teachers and students should work together to define the role of the textbook illustrations and learn to use illustrations for teaching and learning effectively,so as to really play the role of illustrations in textbooks.4. Teachers should change their understanding of the illustrations, integrate the textbook illustrations carefully, analyze illustrations comprehensively as well as share their feelings regularly with other mathematics teachers about using illustrations for teaching. Students should not only learn how to interpret and draw illustrations, but also create a favorable environment for the use of textbook illustrations.On the other hand,the compilers should pay attention to the participation of the relevant personnel of the textbook illustrations,listen to their opinions and suggestions,supervise each link of editorial illustrations strictly and improve the conformity of the textbook illustrations and related knowledge.
