A Study On The Changes Of Artistic Curriculum Content In New China 's Primary Schools

As the new round of basic education curriculum reform deepens, more and more importance has been attached to aesthetic education, especially that for students in primary schools. Art course is a compulsory curriculum and also an important channel of aesthetic education for primary school students, of which the content quality has a direct influence on the aesthetic education for these students.After new China’s establishment, it has gone through eight basic education curriculum reforms. Therefore, the author reviewed and studied, in this paper titled “Research on the Evolving of Primary School Art Curriculum Content in New China”, the evolving of the primary and secondary school art curriculum content along with the eight reforms from an historic angle.Research significance: Through the analysis of evolving characteristic and development rules of new China’s primary school art curriculum content, the author provided a theoretical reflection of how we shall create its contents on a sounder basis in the hope of realizing its full potential educational function.The research object is the seven typical primary school art curriculum standards(teaching syllabus) issued by central government and Ministry of Education after new China’s establishment. The research methods are historic research, literature research, comparison research and so on. With related theories on curriculum and teaching, the author tried to chronologically inspect and study the historic involving process of primary school curriculum content in new China in a detailed manner, combining with the related historic materials. The author also analyzed the characteristics of the knowledge learning of primary school art curriculum in different historic stages, and concluded the evolving rules of the curriculum content, and provided suggestions in order to serve the reform of primary school curriculum content at present. All in all, main conclusions are: Through the summary of historic development process of curriculum content(amount of knowledge and content choice) in the seven typical primary school curriculum standards(teaching syllabus), the author found there were distinct characteristics in different stage after the new China’s establishment from 1949 to 2014,: 1949-1965, a painting stage featuring mainly drawings; 1966~1976, a revolutionary art stage featuring mainly poster paintings; 1966~1976, a subject-based stage featuring mainly art major;1988~1999, a double-base stage featuring mainly the basic knowledge and basic skills;2000~2014, a reform stage featuring mainly quality-oriented education. Based on above, the author proposed following suggestions for primary school art curriculum in China: The content choice shall consider the relation ship between ancient and modern factors as well as Chinese and Western factors, and shall consider the regional difference with classified curriculum. The content modernization shall conform to the students learning and acceptance ability and teachers teaching capability. The integration of the compilation and editing of the content shall follow the principle line and concentrate in different knowledge fields, conforming to reality of the primary education in China.The shortage in this paper: Incomplete historic material and limited literature document search sources will restrict the research. What’s more, the author has limited ability and skill on the research of national curriculum standards(teaching syllabus). Research innovation: Comparison study of the seven typical primary school art curriculum standards(teaching syllabus) issued in new China; Reasonable division of development stages of primary school curriculum content according to art curriculum development rules and the relations between primary school education and the whole education and society. The author made a conclusion of the evolving rules of primary school art curriculum during different history stages and provided some suggestions.
