In today’s world multimedia teaching overseas development is in full swing. China’s development of multimedia teaching is not far behind. It is no exaggeration to say multimedia teaching is towards the development of a modern education unstoppable trend, currently in the use of multimedia teaching of geography has been very common, there are a lot of research on this aspect, based on the preliminary investigation about influence of learning interest in geography teaching of junior high school students of the use of multimedia in Haiwang middle school in Baoan District Shenzhen, the purpose is to explore the use of multimedia in the geography teaching of junior school students’ interest in learning, find the problems and try to find ways and means to solve these problems, which hope to provide a reference for the development of multimedia geography teaching in the school.In this paper, based on the theory of modern education technology, multimedia technology, curriculum theory and teaching theory, education theory and psychological theory, taking students of grade 2014(the first grade of junior high school) and grade 2013(the second grade junior middle school) in Haiwang middle school in Baoan District Shenzhen as the research object, using the method of literature research, questionnaire survey, classroom observation method, comparative analysis and comprehensive research method to research, analyzed the obtained data in detail and effective.The study found that the use of multimedia in the geography teaching has the following advantages:to improve the students’ enthusiasm of learning geography; can provide a lot of information; facilitate an understanding of knowledge; conducive to the sharing of resources; to enhance the students’ interest in learning geography.At the same time, the use of multimedia in the teaching of geography has drawbacks:(1) Ignores the integration between multimedia and geography knowledge(2) Teaching and learning "dominant" and "main body" relationship upside down(3) Classroom timeliness lowThe survey also found that different groups of interest in learning geography by the influence of media is different.In view of the above problems, the author put forward the following suggestions in order to improve the junior middle school students interest in learning geography through the use of multimedia:(1) Rational design courseware to do preparatory work before class(2) Flexible in the use of multimedia technology(3) The effective combination of traditional teaching methodsAccording to different groups, in the multimedia teaching of geography, for greatly influenced groups, teachers should pay more attention to them that because the multimedia influence to reduce the learning interest; for the less affected groups, the teacher should pay more attention to them, try to learn from the above suggestions to increase their interest in learning geography.
