Lv Bicheng was a woman who had colourful experiences through her life. She escaped the inner chamber when she was 21.After that she became famous in China because of her talent and good opportunity. She was engaged in feminist movements and women’s education at her early age. Then She became secretary of Yuan Shikai Government. She also did some business and became very rich. In her middle age she went abroad. In 1930,she converted herself to Buddhism, she devoted the rest of her life to animal protection and preaching the Buddhism. She made the great contribution to women’s education and religion cultural exchange between China and foreign countries. She left many compositions, including poetry and essays. What we can do is not only recognizing her life but also seeing her initiative and limitation in changeable age.Complexity and uncertainty were filled with all her life and she struggled to establish subjectivity and ego in these things. At last she solved the problem between herself and state-nation and spiritual adscription in metaphysical method. This article centers on her choices and changes.I want to explore her subjectivity establishment through her struggle to establish three new roles(patriotic heroin, explorer in women’s education and free and independent traveler)She had to face many inner and external conflicts that showed the typical predicament a talented woman from inner chamber went into outside world had to meet. There are four parts in this article.First part is about the difficult situation that talented women had to face when state-nation crisis had risen. What they learned did not help the nation out of crisis,so they had to confront with critique of identity legitimacy. The second chapter is to explore the fact that she changed herself through three roles establishment, which is a choice of her subjectivity construction. She developed her ability through this kind of method. The third part is to explain the reasons of her leaving inner chamber and restrictions and limitations of her choices when she was in the public places. The essence of these restrictions and limitations are the conflicts between nationalism and feminism and the spirit sufferings. The fourth part is to put Lv Bicheng in the group of talent women.I want to discuss their innovations and what they inherit from inner chamber culture.I want to make some comparisons among three women;Lv Bicheng Qiu Jin and Shi Shuyi.Originally, they were from the same social class and they had the similar background. But they showed the great distinctions among their choices when they came out of inner chamber. We can find the the life state far away from inner chamber.I hope I can gain some understandings of their choices through analyzing these four parts.I think I can see clearly their behind life circumstances and the whole spirit state during the period from Late Qing to the Republic of China through analyzing their tough decisions.
