A Study On Career Education In American Public High School

As the goal of promoting individual career development.Career Education is defined as practical education activities which is planned, organized to improve individual career planning self-awareness, develop career skills. Compared with the university career counseling, career motivation of high school education reform is clearly insufficient. As a connection point to basic education and other types of education, High school is responsible for the students to prepare for careers and employment, the demand for high school career education is very urgent. Besides, high school students stand at the exploration and preparation period of career development process, which calls for urgent implementation of career education. Career education should be an important part of high school education.As the advanced country in the research for career education, America has established its complete career education system. Development of American high school career education is in the world’s leading position, with strong government finances and legislative support, active participation and support of professional industry organizations and agencies, business and other community-school organizations, schools, parents, and formed a professional group-based career and technical education curriculum system and distinctive career development courses. We are in need of systematical learning from America in career counseling idea and the practice of American career education of high school.The article consists of three parts. Firstly, I make a comprehensive analysis of the background of high school career education in US from three aspects: socio-economic, education and theory, policy. Secondly, California public high school career education is an important case study of this paper, including implementing body and form, curriculum and content, support resources, characteristics analysis of public high school career education. Thirdly, on the basis of the American public high school career, educational experiences, I make suggestions about the implementation of public high school career education in China:first of all to popularize the concept of a career, improve people’s awareness of the high school career education; To set up career education support system, pay attention of the building of network and professional organization. The high school curriculum reform should be accompanied by drawing upon the experience of other countries, establishing internal career development professional body of high school, training full-time career education teachers.
