Poverty is a serious problem which all humanity must confront together,and the solution of this problem depends on the developing of China’s povertyreduction. Currently, participatory poverty alleviation model has been regarded asthe best way of development working, which principle is people-oriented andempowerment. International Non-governmental Organizations have played animportant role in the process during the model’s formation and development. InChina, as the poverty alleviation entered a new period, the traditional eliminatingpoverty of government-dominated are hard to adapt to new needs. Government isstarting to seek cooperation with large INGOs in the field of poverty alleviation, usingits participatory poverty alleviation principle to conduct programs.As a new subject of poverty alleviation in China, INGOs have greatdifferences with the governments in the terms of poverty alleviation. This thesis willanalyze the influence of INGOs’ participatory poverty alleviation practices in China bycomparing the differences between the government and INGO on poverty alleviation.INGOs adhere to the local policy for poverty alleviation; attach great importance tothe cooperation with local governments, respect local wisdom. The participatorypoverty alleviation model by INGOs makes up the shortage of governments at acertain extent, but there have also occurred some issues. This thesis introduced asuccess case which is about the practice of World Vision in Yongsheng, YunnanProvince. The practice pioneered a new model of linking INGOs with localgovernments. Its successful experience is worth reference and promotion.INGOs’ participatory poverty alleviation practice starts late in China, thereare many problems still need to improve. Strengthen the cooperation andcommunication between INGOs and governments; create a new cooperation modebetween INGOs and public institutions. Meanwhile, improve the public participationat poor areas, in order to achieve the strategy of sustainable development goals.
