The Meaning And Problem Improvement Of University Celebration

The university anniversary widely draws attentions from people as a centralized refraction inside the university and even some issues in the society. The thesis comprehensively investigates into implications, problems and improvements of university anniversaries by using Literature Analysis, Comparative Study and Case Study. First of all, it presents the views and opinions of different groups in university anniversaries from multiple aspects, and reveals diverse understandings and interpretations about the positioning, targeting, organizing of university anniversaries. Secondly, it explains the problems existing in university anniversaries from two perspectives: On one hand, university anniversaries are excessively frequent, seeking quick success and instant benefits, administratively overwhelming and are lack of features, which reflects the value orientation deviation of universities; On the other hand, university anniversaries do not embody the unity of different demands from different groups in terms of evaluation criteria, which reflects the narrow concerns of universities. At last, it provides several improvement suggestions centered on four kinds of the university spirits: realism and pragmatism, humanistic concern, academic supremacy and personality liberation.From the view of this thesis, university anniversary is necessary, because it indicates the growth of a university as a commemoration. It contains ritual elements in the form of activities and it’d better be in a joyful and lively activity atmosphere. The university administrators are more concerned about the situation outside the university, hoping to get effective resources to further expand the influence by holding the university anniversary. The faculties believe they are lack of attention from the university, hoping that the celebration will bring substantial changes to themselves or even the university. The current students and alumni are more concerned about emotional experience, hoping to get satisfaction and a sense of belonging in the celebration. The thesis emphasizes that university anniversaries will play a better role in the reconstruction of university spirit and university culture only if they can be more diversely considerate of the concerns and demands from different groups.
