In recent years, people are interested in the researches of metaphor from acognitive perspective. The cognitive researches of metaphor make metaphor get rid ofthe traditional rhetorical study and gradually become a hot topic in many subjects.Metaphor has provided a new perspective for foreign language teaching researches. InEnglish teaching, writing is a difficult and weak area. Many students face difficulties inwriting that they don’t know how to express their ideas accurately and freely. Theresearches on writing and metaphor demonstrate that metaphor can enhance the lexicalrichness, sentence variety and discourse coherence in English writing.Based on the theoretical researches, the author tried to apply the conceptualmetaphor theory to English writing teaching in high school. In order to verify thefeasibility of the teaching mode, a10-week teaching experiment was conducted inXiaoyi middle school. The experimental data demonstrated that conceptual metaphortheory in English writing teaching has its feasibility. Thus, it advocates teachers to guidestudents to learn English by the conceptual metaphor theory.
