Composition Teaching Urban-rural Junior High School Participatory Action Research

The teachers at some middle schools have a lot of difficulty in their teaching of composition due to their students' lack of some basic knowledge and training. On the one hand, the students fail to master the knowledge and skills of writing and they are not interested in writing.On the other hand, the teachers are obsessive about the task-based teaching method and their teaching is ineffective more often or not. As a result, the students often get lower marks in the exams. In order to find a more effecitve teaching method and alter the present situation, the author tries writing by participation. It aims at making students reflect on their living experience and arouse their desier to express themeslves so as to nurture the students' interest in writing and enhance their writing ability. In the experiment process, the experiment helps the teachers improve their teaching ability while teachers' teaching experience promotes the efficiency of the experiment. Making use of the experience in this experiment, thesis includs the narration of the experiement process and the author's reflection This thesis manages to discover the practical experience and knowledge so as to find a better teaching method for the teachers in some middles.According to the observation, comprehension and analysis of the sudents, the author adopts family life as the topic and carries out the the writing by participation experiment. In the whole process, according to the students' puzzles about the experiment and their problems in their writings the author adjusts the experiment plan time by time so that she can get a more concrete and targeted experiment plan.This thesis takes 63 students involved in the writing by participation experiment as the researching samples. It introduces the process of final writing and three auxiliary activities and elaborates on the problems in the experiement and strategies to wrestle with them. The author finds the unusual but productive merits of writing by participation method from not only those typical events and problems but also the process of solving these problems. This thesis also discusses some commen problems in composition teaching and the approaches to cope with them. This research gets pleasant outcome as a result of continous practice.The students become much more interested in wrting. The students pay more attention to their lives and their observing ability is enhanced. Coopration and discussion promote students' sense of participation and the students'ability of self-expression and writing is also improved. The experiment stimulates the students' much more desire for writing,especially for the sudents who are not good at study and writing. The teacher's writing teaching ability is also enhanced.These are the conclusions as follows. Teaching by participation is a valid way to alter the the traditional writing teaching method. The critical point of writing by participation is to choose the topic. Writing by participation must be combined with other wrting ability trainings. Action research is a good way to improve the teacher's teaching ability.This thesis also offers some specific suggestions on how to conduct the action research of writing by participation. When conducting writing by participation teaching, one must weigh the the difference of the students in their interest of writing and mustn't teach every student in the same way. In the writing by participation teaching process, the teacher must paly the leading role and give the students necessary instructions. The writing by participation will be effective only if it is in use constantly and the teaching contents must be related.
