"self-government is self-management",for a long time our understanding of self-government stays merely on the surface,self-government are involved in almost all fields of study.In the field of politics and law,even though we are committed to democracy,constitutionalism,the rule of law,such as the so-called modern system of research and construction,but we also found that we are gradually losing the strength of the rule of our life control.However,not a terrible loss of self-government rights, but because we are losing or have lost the sense and capacity of self-government.In the first part of paper,the definition of self-government,from the meaning to the extension,from content to form,from theory to practice,we are trying to describe the aspirations of our time,the face of self-government.Focus on four issues:Firstly,the self-government of the origin and historical background,how self-government became the anxiety of our time;secondly,use two kinds of liberty in Berlin around the concept of interpretation,pointing out the inherent relation between liberty and self-government;thirdly,compare the meaning of self-government and democracy,in reality,to reveal the unity of both in political field;fourthly,analyse in the legal world, how self-government develop itself,how self-government and the rule of law come to the spirit of unity and internal tension,in particular the crisis that self-government faces.In the second,third and fourth part of this article,select three important historical periods,or samples of the west,they are,the ancient Greek era and ancient Rome,medieval city of self-government and self-governing society in the United States,on behalf of a degree of self-government from the sprout,growing and a mature stage of modernization.Through the history analysis of legal sociology and sample analysis methods,I try to find a consistent core of the concept of self-government,sort out the logic of self-government operation and access to the revelation about the best life.The last part of this article describes the process of Chinese-style self-government in carrying out the difficulties faced by Chinese,the cause that I need to point out that the spirit of self-government,the core of the development of Chinese-style self-government are cultivating the spirit of self-government in the practice.The so-called anxiety of time,in fact,is almost as old as the history of human civilization,follow-up questions:what is the essence of what is life? What is the best life? Today the answer point to self-government,self-government are the subject of self-directed,self-fulfilment,and the main pursuit of the highest value.However, how to balance the value between the pursuit of individual and the harmony of Community?.what kind of self-government do we need today? The article is a weak response to the eternal question.
