Researches on official system constitutes a main part of the study of political system. Thanks to researchers, we could find a lot of essays talk about this topic today. Of course, we could image that there will be more interesting things in this area would attract us in the future. The study of the Imperial Library in T'ang dynasty is not enough owing to the Imperial Library is less attractive than the Three Ministries and Six Departments which were more important in the administration framework. But after think carefully, we should realize, the Imperial Library was a part of the official system, certainly not very important as we knew, but as a part at least. And at the other hand, from point of philology, we could find the study of this department may help us to know more about the administration system of library in the ancient era. So we should do more work or research on this subject.Since Qing dynasty, textual research became the main method in the sphere of scholarship, this method contributed to the study of history literature, also to the study of official system. According to the forms of these works, we could classify them to three types. The first type is concerned to the officials of government. The second type pays more attention to the framework of government. The third type takes both sides equal. This article uses the method of textual research also, and want to do more work to study about the curators of imperial library and vice-curators of imperial library, the focus is who hold the place of these position? What did they do during that time?This article consists of six chapters:Chapter One Introduction summarizes the general situation of the research on Imperial Library and the history text.Chapter Two consists of seven parts. The contents of them as following: part one explains the meanings of the Chinese character mi (祕), mi (秘) and the word mishu (秘书), enumerates other parlances of Imperial Library, curator of Imperial Library and vice-curator of Imperial Library in history. The next part tells us the development of Imperial Library. The third part tells the constitution of Imperial Library in T'ang dynasty. The forth part study the position of Imperial Library of T'ang dynasty, the conclusion is: compares to the inner-palace library as the Academe of Sage, the status of Imperial Library was lower, and it had to accept the administration from the Ministry of Supremacy. The fifth part carries an accurate statistics and analysis of educational level of curators and vice-curators, through the analysis, the author find at the beginning time of T'ang, most of the curators and vice-curators arose of the Menyin which was an official system through which sons of feudal bureaucrats would be officials depending on their forefathers' contributions. The proportion of those who arose imperil civil examination were lower than the former situation. But among the middle times and later times of this dynasty, the curators and vice-curators who passed the imperial civil examination were the main part of official in the Imperial Library. The sixth part makes some research on the curators' and vice-curators' election, the examination of achievements in their post and the transformation. The seventh part tells us the curators' and vice-curators' daily administration and some special tasks during their tour of duty.Chapter Three, the research on the curators of Imperial Library. At present, we could know 153 curators, including 9 are still undetermined.Chapter Five, the research on the vice-curators of Imperial Library. We could know 127 vice-curators, including 11 are still undermined.Chapter Six draws some conclusions of this article.
