In order to improve overall urban competition, electronic government is an inevitable choice in the course of transformation from industrialization to informational society. Its degree of development is becoming an important symbol for measuring overall strength and competition of countries, which brings tremendous revolution for government management. Electronic government and urban competition are closely tied together and supplement each other. Furthermore, the former will surely turn into the impetus of the latter.This paper tries to start with China's e-government development to enhance the competitiveness of cities, firstly, discuss the relationship between e-government and the competitiveness of cities, e-government is the city's competitiveness rating on the content and e-government development is the city enhance the competitiveness of the direct driving force. Then, through the case analysis about the Chinese e-government development and urban competitiveness, and study the framework of China's existing e-government development and urban competitiveness, offer science and policy recommendations about the establishment of viable e-government and the virtuous circle of urban competitiveness partly. And also offer some practical ideas and measures of achieving the improvement of urban competitiveness and sustainable development.
