| With the increasing social competition, work stress, as one of the most familiar social phenomenon in the modern society, is arriving at the highest level which has never been reached before. A series of personal physical, psychological, and behavioral consequences which come from work stress are becoming more and more important factors that affect the organization performance. Practically, Managers, as their important and special roles in organizations, are enduring the even more serious work stress. Therefore, there are a lot of applicable values in studying work stress. Meanwhile, considered that the compact relationship among self-efficacy, work stress and work performance, there is also high theoretically value in introducing the self-efficacy variable into the researching framework of work stress and work performance and in analyzing their relationships explicitly.Founded on the review of the previous researches, this paper identify what have been done in these researches and what should be expanded in this literature, construct the research model including these three variables which have been mentioned in the above paragraphs, and then put forward the hypotheses of this paper, specify the design of this research.And based upon the structural research model and research design, there are two stages in this study.(l)Document analysis Document analysis is conducted toward theself-reports of MBA and graduate students major in management, then we summarize the work stress sources of managers which will help to design the manager work stress questionnaire used in the sequel empirical studies. At the same time, as the main exploratory result of document analysis, we found that work stress is not only a general conception but can be separated into two different kinds stress which is good stress (eustress) and bad stress (distress). This result will be confirmed by the empirical study in the following text.(2)Empirical study First of all, founded on the review of previous researches, we design the questionnaire which will be used in the empirical study. And then about 125 managers from more than 10 enterprises in Eastern China were surveyed by these questionnaires. Finally, by using a series of statistical analysis methods (such as factor analysis, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis and path analysis), the construction model and hypothesis of this research are confirmed and reinforced.Finially, the main conclusions of this paper can be indicated that:(1)The mainsources of manager's work stress, and these stressors can be separated into intrinsic stressor and extrinsic stressor. For personal work performance, these two stressors are good stress and bad stress respectively.(2)Self-efficacy is partially mediated the relationship between work stress and work performance, namely that work stress not only can affect work performance directly but also can work on it indirectly through self-efficacy. It explained the reasons that why the two different kinds of work stress (intrinsic work stress and extrinsic work stress) works good or bad for performance in a certain extent.(3)As noted in the second point, work stress also can affect work performance directly.(4)The conclusions of this paper are mostly the same with task performance, but as for contextual performance these conclusions are out of focus. |
