As the largest and the most influential inter-government organization, the United Nations bears the special responsibility for the peace and security of mankind. In accordance with the purposes and principles of The UN charter, the United Nations Peace-Keeping Operation is gradually formulated and developed through the efforts of coordinating and settling international disputes. It played a significant role in the endeavors of maintaining the world peace over the last fifty years.Having undergone the initiation, development, stagnation and redevelopment, the UN Peace-Keeping Operation is being improved day by day. After the founding of the UN, the Security Council has been paralyzed by the Cold War and some countries' colonialism during a long period of time. At the end of 1980s, the new international political pattern with the United States as the sole power was formed in the wake of the end of the Cold War and the disintegration of the Soviet Union. In light of the relaxation of relations between East and West countries, the role of the UN has gained increasing importance. The Peace-Keeping Operation has entering into the most active period since the founding of the UN, during which its frequency is seeing unprecedented growth and its scale and function is developed constantly. However, the factors, which prevent the function of the UN Peace-Keeping into play, has been far from decreasing. The roles of powerful countries have always occupied the prominent place during the practicing of it. Extrication from their control requires efforts from both the United Nations and people longing for peace. After the outbreak of Iraq War on March 20, 2003, some countries and organizations expressed their extreme disappointment of and dissatisfaction with the fact that the UN hasn't prevented it. The Iraq War inflicted heavy losses on the endeavors contributed to the peaceful settlement of the Iraq crisis by the international community. It was the taunt about the UN Peace-Keeping Operation, which seriously weakened the prestige of the UN in terms of maintaining international peace and security. Now, within the international uni-multipolar strategic pattern in which there exists the United States and other countries and regions with strong political and economic power, the "unipolar" still imposes more impact on the UN. Only by putting the "unipolar" under the construction of the UN, can the"multipolars" contain the conspiracy of hegemony held by the United States. With the unilateralism getting momentum, the United Nations is confronted with the test of coexisting with the "unipolar" in a harmonious way.The UN Peace-Keeping Operation will move forward continuously in spite of the difficulties and twists being incurred in future.
